IS PUBLIC RELATIONS WORTH THE PRICE TAG?

PUBLIC RELATIONS

No matter the size of your agency, public relations is valuable and generates results. Don’t neglect it.

PR is a tough sell for anyone, and especially for agencies, who have trouble spending on themselves. But whether it's an in-house hire or a PR agency, PR is worth the price tag. Here are a few reasons why.

It lets you tell your story to prospects and talent. Most agencies — and even some brands — prefer to let their work do the talking. The problem is, the work alone only goes so far in helping you tell your story, especially in a fragmented market where prospective clients or talent aren't likely to have even seen it. Getting your stories told by the press amplifies your work, and lends it credibility.

It lets you build on other's connections. PR reaches your target audience through the voice of trusted news outlets, influencers, and journalists. When working with a PR agency, you get borrow their equity with those outlets. These relationships have been built over many years. A good PR person knows who and where to go for what. In the end, your content is visible to the audience you care about.

It helps you be a little more selfish. Often times we are so busy focusing on external business needs, that we forget to focus internally — and your story gets the short end of the stick. Rather than dividing your time, an agency or PR person makes makes PR their main priority. Think of it as self-care.

It gives your work a secret weapon. Most companies bring PR in at the end of a campaign, with a focus solely on amplification. But if you're working with a PR person, you have a secret weapon — someone with the experience to know how reporters will react to an idea, and how to make it better and more worthy of press.

PR increases visibility on search engines. The last (but certainly not the least) benefit is a strengthened SEO presence. Placing news releases is invaluable link juice. Link juice or backlinks is any article that links to another source or website. Search engine optimization can be a long-run game but this can help your business jump to the top of the search results page faster.
